Job Summary

The Division of Student Affairs at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Manager, Campus Rec Turf and Landscaping in the Campus Recreation Department. This position is responsible for managing and maintaining the Campus Recreation fields and landscaping and for monitoring field budgets and equipment inventory as well as ensuring efficient field operations.

Essential Functions include (but not limited to):

Maintain all Campus Recreation fields and landscaping, ensuring fields are safe and prepared for Campus Recreation games, practices, events, and informal recreation.

Carry out administrative duties including monitoring budgets, purchasing, developing and enforcing policies and procedures, and developing and implementing goals and specifications related to the operations of fields and landscaping.

Develop and manage a preventative maintenance plan for all fields and landscaping as well as a plan for ongoing maintenance.

Manage inventory of equipment and supplies for work areas.

Assist with the coordination of emergency action plan for fields and work areas.

Assist with making rain delay decisions and/or closing fields due to weather.

Hire, train, and evaluate full-time, student, and seasonal employees. Responsible for appraising performance and ensuring that the training and development needs of staff are met.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry into the applicant pool requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Horticulture, Turf Management, or a related field. Plus, three (3) years experience in field and landscape preparation and maintenance. Employer will consider experience in lieu of education at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education and advanced degrees in lieu of experience. Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.

The candidate must also have knowledge of turf and landscaping management and irrigation systems, as well as a working knowledge of field and landscaping equipment.
